Up

Family and Relationship Counselling describes what happens when people are helped to face difficulties and make appropriate decisions after exploring the available options.

It usually involves several sessions with a highly trained counsellor, each session lasting for about an hour.

  • Who Can Benefit?

Any person faced with conflict or distress in a relationship or personal situation.

Anyone about to enter a long term relationship.

Any couples wanting to enrich their present relationship.

Family and relationship counselling is most helpful when all parties involved are present (family or partners), but this is not essential.

Most sessions take place at the counselling centre with the counsellors aiming to cast new light on the problems people are attempting to solve.

  • Who Makes the Decisions?

Each counsellor respects the client's right to make their own decisions and take responsibility for their own lives.

Counsellors don't judge a person or dictate what they should do.

The choice belongs to those seeking counselling.

Each counsellor has taken an oath of confidentiality. There are laws in place forbidding counsellors from giving evidence in a court of law about relationship counselling .

  • Who are the Counsellors?

Each counsellor selected has completed appropriate training in counselling, is committed to a stringent code of ethics and is continually examining and developing their work.

Children are seen by counsellors trained in play therapy.

All counsellors are assessed regularly by an external consultant. Every counsellor receives a certificate of continuing practice every two years.
