Drought Support Extended

Wednesday 15th of July 2009

Federal Government extends support to drought affected communities until 30th June 2010

The Anglican Counselling Service (ACS) has recently been advised that it is to receive additional funding from the Federal Government, to enable it’s Family Support Response Teams, to continue providing both counselling and community education programmes, to drought affected communities throughout the region.

The Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs, Jenny Macklin, said the Government recognises the importance of supporting farming families affected by the drought and the Response Teams were an integral part of the Government’s strategy to assist such families.

Executive Director of ACS, Larry Apthorpe, says the Service is very pleased that the Government has acknowledged that there are many families and communities that have been – and continue to be, adversely affected by the prolonged drought. Mr Apthorpe said that ACS has three response teams who are available to visit families throughout the New England – Nth. West, as well as the Macquarie Barwon region too, whenever required.

Anyone wishing to organise a visit, or make further enquiries, is invited to contact ACS on 1300 549 577 during business hours.
