| Anglican Counselling Service to continue free drought supportThe Anglican Counselling Service (ACS) will continue to provide emotional support to drought affected communities of the New England – North West, courtesy of new funding from the Dept of Families, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FACSIA).The Executive Director of ACS, Larry Apthorpe, says the funding will enable ACS to continue it’s work in those areas which have been most severely affected by the prolonged drought. "Long term stress caused by natural events, such as drought, may expose issues such as poor mental health, depression, relationship and family difficulties and of course, many people are also unaware of where they can find much needed support in a time of need" Mr Apthorpe said. "Now, courtesy of the Australian Government, drought affected farming communities can access support from competent, caring and professional staff at the Anglican Counselling Service at Moree, Warialda, Narrabri, North Star, Inverell, Glen Innes, Armidale and Tamworth." Mr Apthorpe said he hoped the Service would be able to extend this support to other communities around the region as time and funds permitted. "ACS staff will seek to work closely with Centrelink, Rural Financial Counsellors, the Area Health Service, local churches and farming communities to improve their mental and emotional well being and build strong and supportive families and communities’ Mr Apthorpe concluded.
