Mental Health First Aid Course to be offered again in Tamworth

The very popular 2 day Mental Health First Aid Course is to be offered again in Tamworth, on Monday and Tuesday the 5th and 6th May – hosted by The Anglican Counselling Service (ACS).

ACS has offered this course throughout the region on a number of occasions and the response has always been very positive.

Fay Jackson, a well known advocate for mental health education will be the presenter.  The aim of the course is to increase community awareness about mental health.  It does not teach people to be therapists.  Rather, it teaches how to recognise the symptoms of mental health problems, how to provide initial help and how to go about guiding a person towards appropriate professional help.

The number of people seeking professional counselling help from ACS for depression and related issues continues to increase.  It is estimated that 20 per cent of the population will experience mental health problems in any one year.

There is a limit of 50 places in the Course and it is offered free of charge courtesy of funding from the Federal Government.  Full attendance (12 hours) is required to receive the certificate.

The course will be held at the Country Comfort Tamworth Towers Motel from 9.00am – 5.00pm each day with lunch, morning and afternoon tea provided. Those wishing to attend will need to register by phoning ACS on 6765 2527 by 30th April.
