The Warning Signs:

  • Talking, writing or hinting about wanting to die e.g. "You'd be better off without me"

  • Making final arrangements - e.g.  checking wills, insurance policies etc.

  • Giving away the things they really care about, or own

  • Feeling no-one cares about them, and they don't care about anything

  • Telling people they feel hopeless, useless, depressed, sad, nervous or distant from friends and family

  • Attempts at hurting themselves

  • Behaving recklessly - eg driving too fast, picking fights, other dangerous behaviour

  • Subtle or major changes in behaviour or personality - eg the person becomes sadder or quieter, argues more than usual, is more tearful or becomes withdrawn

  • Not performing as usual, or as expected, at school or work

  • Overuse of drugs or alcohol
